“Wednesday. Dear Mum and Dad. We are now at Halford Y.H. The weather yesterday was terrible. We came from Instow to Lynton thro’ Ilfracombe and Combe Martin. It poured with rain most of the time .Today was a little better – no rain but still no sun. I hope we see it again before Saturday. Tomorrow we go to Cheddar. We shall be home on Sat pm sometime. R is going to stay Sat night if that’s ok. We shall stay to breakfast and dinner and go to Hough’s for tea on Sunday. I shan’t write again. Be good all of you. Love V&R. We had our dinner here today at a pub -cheese sandwiches with pickle – very nice.” 27th July 1967
