Torquay to Newquay

“Dear Joyce and Jim. Here I am – actually just outside Paignton at Goodrington Sands but the same lovely beach. Our hotel is very spacious, lovely lounges, games room, gardens, flowers and lawns. The staff are most helpful and the owners work equally as hard. Food is good and almost too plentiful. We are (Kate & I) going on one days outing and one ½ days outing and one evening theatre concert – this week lots of entertainment in the Hotel too. Much love Edith.”

“Dear Sharon. This is a lovely beach where we are staying on holiday. My little girl Alexandra is 12 years old just like you. She likes to go swimming with her daddy, and is now learning to snorkel so that she can see under the water. Lots of love from Mr & Mrs Smith & Alexandra”

We stayed at Woolacombe for 3 days at the same camp site as before (there are still no ‘all male parties’ allowed !). Luv Terry & Heather”

    • Hello Debbie – To say I’m impressed is an understatement – such a lovely story. I’ve never come across one of the subjects of a John Hinde card so am really pleased that you’ve got in contact. Sadly as far as I am aware the cards are no longer available for purchase. A very small number of the cards are available to buy as prints via The Photographer’s gallery in London but the prices are a bit steep and they don’t do the one you’re after. That’s the bad news – the good news is that I’m more than happy to send you my copy of the card, and I’ll dig through the collection at the weekend to see if I have any duplicates (which I’ll be happy to send over to you as well). Just email your details to and we’ll go from there. DWx
